In the heart of the Waikato township of Matamata is Matamata Country Lodge, offering an intimate retirement village that includes independent chalets, assisted living apartments, a rest home with hospital level care, as well as day care and respite services. Steeped in history, the main lodge dates back to 1924 and was lovingly restored by the owners in the early 1990s as a purpose-built rest home.

There are 28 two-bedroom chalets, eight of which are brand new and available now. They all feature full kitchens and bathrooms and residents can choose to look after their gardens, or have them maintained, for no extra cost, by our expert staff gardeners. Chalets also feature emergency alarms for peace of mind. The assisted living apartments are the next choice for those requiring additional care, but with a focus on maximising the resident’s privacy and independence.

All residents of Matamata Country Lodge have access to a number of other facilities on-site, including visiting GPs, physiotherapists and podiatrists and a dedicated library stocked with books and magazines. They also enjoy a variety of activities, overseen by our qualified diversional therapists, and these include housie, bowls, quizzes, word games and happy hour. On a regular basis the lodge also has visits from piano players and singers, as well as schools, cultural groups and bands that visit throughout the year. Community outings are also available for those who want to get out and about in the community, whether it’s to simply have an ice cream or visit a local tourist attraction.

Matamata Country Lodge is still owned and operated by the Main family, those who renovated the property back in 1992, and they take great pride in ensuring personalised care for each and every resident.
