How much do Auckland rest homes cost?

The cost of living in a rest home depends on a number of factors, such as location, services, room type, and eligibility for the Residential Care Subsidy. You can read more about the cost of rest home care here.

Maximum contribution

The Ministry of Health sets a ‘maximum contribution’ to put a cap on the amount any rest home can charge per week. This limit is updated each year and depends on the location of the rest home. It’s currently between $1,000 and $1,200 per week.

The only time the cost of an Auckland rest home may exceed the maximum contribution is if you opt to receive premium services. Premium services are not covered by the Residential Care Subsidy.

The Residential Care Subsidy

The Residential Care Subsidy helps to cover the cost of living in an Auckland rest home. To be eligible, you must be needs assessed to determine that you require rest home care. You must also meet the financial criteria of the income and assets test.
