Welbourn Village is part of the Masonic Villages Trust, which has several villages and care facilities in the southern North Island, including six villages in Taranaki. The village is known as the ‘city’ village because of its close proximity to New Plymouth’s CBD. It is set in lovely, lush gardens in which the residents take much pride and which attract garden tours. It is also close to the coast and scenic parks, as well as cafes, restaurants, a cinema, shops and other services.
There are 32 villas in the village, each with two bedrooms and an attached garage. The village has a strong sense of community and residents take advantage of the community hall, enjoying get togethers such as dinners, bowls and film nights. The hall also contains a small library and exercise gym for use of residents.
Welbourn, like all of the Trust’s villages, is a quality retirement community with a culture that reflects the community in which it is situated. Because the Trust's villages are smaller than those provided by commercial operators, residents maintain their individuality.
