As Village and Sales Manager at Waterford by Oceania, Jenny hears a familiar sentiment from residents: “I wish we’d done it sooner.”
It’s a phrase that reflects what many discover after making the move. Life here isn’t about slowing down, it’s about reconnecting.
“Residents who come and live at Waterford, they’re often telling us what they really love about it,” Jenny says. “And it comes down to the wonderful people and spaces they get to live in.”
That sense of connection is something Waterford prioritises every day.
It’s the camaraderie and the sense of community they have with other residents,” she explains. “We’re always creating moments for residents to come together.”
But community doesn’t mean obligation. Jenny is clear that this is independent living first and foremost.
If someone’s craving connection and safety and security, they’ve got that in bucket loads,” she says. “But if they don’t want to be actively involved in any of our programmes, that’s fine too. They can pick and choose.”

“It’s about having that flexibility,” Jenny says. “You can choose to be part of it or do none of it but still have it there on your doorstep.”

When speaking with people considering a move, Jenny encourages them to focus less on features and more on the feeling of a village.
It’s a journey,” she says. “It might take a year to 18 months. But when you come on site, look around, are the residents smiling? What’s the mood like? It’s a feeling you get.”
She invites people to picture themselves at Waterford.
“Can you see yourself here? Do you want to bring your best friends in for a girls’ lunch? Your grandkids for a swim in the pool?”
Her advice is simple: “Come in. See for yourself.”
