For Pauline, the decision wasn’t part of a long-term plan.
Like many others, she never imagined herself living in a retirement village.
“Most of us said we’d never go there,” she reflects. “And then something changed. I don’t know what it was… maybe the light bulb came on.”
She found herself wandering into The Bayview, and in that moment, something just clicked.
When I walked in, I felt comfortable,” Pauline says. “And I think that’s part of the test. Walk in - how does it feel?”
Her apartment offers a stunning outlook, one that adds to the everyday joy.
“We see the cruise boats, the lights of the port, and of course, the Mount. It’s pretty special.”
Life now feels lighter and freer.
I’ve got a choice to do whatever it is I want to do,” she explains. “I’m not spending my days mowing lawns or organising the upkeep of a house. These guys look after all those details. I’m enjoying the easiness of it.”
Pauline talks about her experience at The Bayview Retirement Village.
That doesn’t mean Pauline isn’t still living independently.
“I still do my washing, shopping, cooking… but somehow, it’s not so onerous anymore. It’s a feel-good place.”
She’s quick to point out that retirement village life isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution.
Everybody’s needs are different. It isn’t the lifestyle for everybody - no way,” she says. “But for those of us who do come here… we get it. We see what it offers.”
And for Pauline, it offers exactly what she needs.
“I wandered in here looking for somewhere to live. And I just knew - it was right.”
