For Marg and Rod, the decision to move wasn’t driven by age, it was about living smarter.
“Our house was two-storey,” says Rod. “And we wanted something on one level.”
That practical motivation led them to Waterford by Oceania, where they found exactly what they needed - and more.
“This place has a lift, everything’s on one level… so it’s perfect,” she says. “It was local, and all our friends are here in the area.”
Knowing someone already living at Waterford helped them take that first step. But what sealed the deal was the effortless lifestyle.
Lock up and leave is one of the best features,” Rod says. “You just turn the key like you’re at a hotel and away you go. Georgie next door waters the pots - that’s it!”
Their days of home maintenance are happily behind them.
“I used to have to do all the maintenance,” says Rod.
“And I’d hold the ladder,” Marg adds with a laugh. “Which was risky - I couldn’t have caught you anyway!”
Now, their advice to others is simple: don’t wait.
Rod and Marg talk about their experience at Waterford Retirement Village.
Come sooner than later,” says Rod. “There’s another life here that frees you up from your house.”
While some friends were hesitant, even skeptical, Marg and Rod have seen opinions shift over time.
“We had one friend come and visit. She said, ‘Rod, it’s lovely, but not for me.’”
“Five years later,” Rod grins, “she’s got her name down.”
Reflecting on their decision, Marg sums it up perfectly: “We’re on a holiday.”
And Rod agrees, “Yeah. It’s good.”
