“Why not do it now?”: Carole’s unexpected new beginning at Waterford

At a glance

Carole’s story is one of an unexpected new beginning, where a spontaneous visit to Waterford led to a vibrant lifestyle, genuine connections, and a place where she truly feels at home.

Carole and her husband hadn’t planned on moving to a retirement village. In fact, the idea hadn’t even crossed her mind - until a casual visit changed everything.

“We visited friends who had just moved in across the road,” Carole recalls. “We thought we’d pop in and see how they were getting on… and suddenly, we thought - this is perfect. Why not do it now?”

That spontaneous moment set Carole and her husband on a path they hadn’t anticipated.

“We didn’t think we were that old,” she laughs. “But now that I’m here, age doesn’t really come into it. It’s just a better lifestyle.”

Moving to Waterford by Oceania gave them not just peace of mind, but a new lease on life.

“We’re comfortable. And if we’ve got a problem, it gets sorted. That’s really reassuring,” she says. “The security, the financial stability - selling our house and having that little bit extra in the bank - it’s made life really good.”

What surprised Carole most wasn’t just the lifestyle, but the connection she’s found within the community.

Carole and her husband talk about their experience at Waterford Retirement Village.

“We’ve all grown up in the same era, faced the same challenges. It’s like we speak the same language. It’s comforting being around like-minded people, it’s common ground, really.”

And in an unexpected twist, Carole has found herself coming out of her shell more than she ever imagined.

“We’re comfortable. And if we’ve got a problem, it gets sorted. That’s really reassuring,” she says. “The security, the financial stability - selling our house and having that little bit extra in the bank - it’s made life really good.”

“I didn’t expect to be doing the library!” she says with a smile. “I always thought I’d just focus on my garden - that’s my happy place. But people stop and chat, and I’ve even given away plants over the fence.”

Those little moments of connection have become big parts of her daily joy.

“The community here is fantastic,” she says warmly. “I’ve found more than just a home - I’ve found a place where I truly belong.”
