Bishop Selwyn is located just a few minutes south of Christchurch city centre. The village is only a short drive from all the city has to offer, including Hagley Park and Golf Club, cafes, shops and community facilities.
You’ll find a variety of independent living options at Bishop Selwyn. Our well-established village offers eight one-bedroom villas, 21 two-bedroom villas, and 15 studio apartments. Most of our villas have internal access garages. These homes are set in a tranquil garden, which provides attractive areas for socialising with friends and family, or just sitting and enjoying the sun. Our bird aviary is equally popular with residents and visitors. Bishop Selwyn also provides a range of care, including palliative and day care, in our rest home and hospital facility.
We’re proud of the comprehensive activities programme at the village, which provides something for everyone. The village also runs regular happy hours, social outings and shopping trips, along with other entertainment offerings.
Bishop Selwyn is owned and operated by Ultimate Care Group. For more information, please make an enquiry.

Alterations for reason such as a disability may be arranged with managements approval. The resident will be required to cover all costs associated with the alteration. When the resident leaves the village, they may be required to revert the unit to its original state (at the resident’s cost) unless the new resident wishes to buy the property with the alterations in place.
What do resident fees cover? ×
The weekly fee covers the day-to-day operation of the village such as lawn and garden maintanance, rubbish collection, rates, insurance etc.
How long is the cooling off period once the contract is signed? ×
As per the Retirement Village Act, the cooling off period after an Occupation Right Agreement has been signed is 15 working days.
When leaving the village, what is the process for units being sold? ×
Units are advertised at market value. Residents are welcome to introduce a prospective resident as long as they meet the normal entry criteria of the village.
Can residents have friends & family to stay? ×
Friends and family are welcome to stay for a limited period with approval of the village manager.
What does the entry fee cover? ×
The entry cost gives the resident the right to live in the unit for their lifetime or as long as they choose. When the resident leaves the village they will receive the cost paid minus the deferred management fee and any other charges due.
What are the residents rights if the village got into financial difficulty? ×
Residents are protected by a first ranking mortgage with an Independent Statutory Supervisor. The Statutory Supervisor holds a first ranking mortgage over the village land in order to ensure priority and security for the rights of all residents. The Statutory Supervisor also ensures the operator of the village acts in accordance with the Disclosure Statement and the village is run in a financially responsible manner.
